Your next steps to

getting it done....

Hi there!
Thanks for applying for the Get It Done program, designed to help book authors and academics complete their long-form writing projects.
In my more than 40 years as a professional writer, editor and coach, I have helped hundreds of writers become more productive, successful and ever-so-much happier in their work. Most of all, I've helped them finish their projects, some of which have been dogging them for years.
What follows are some simple questions that will give me the essential information I need to better understand your challenges and to determine whether this program will be a good fit for you.
Many writers have also told me that the simple act of completing this form has helped them better understand themselves and suggested steps they can take to improve their own writing.
Completing the form will take you roughly 15 minutes. If you are interrupted before you finish, the form automatically saves your work. That way, you can return and resume exactly where you left off. If you want to review your answers after you've finished, just use the "back arrows" at the bottom of each page to scroll through backwards the form.
Once you’ve finished and paid the $100 deposit, I will get back to you within 24 hours (or sooner) to let you know whether you’ve been accepted. If you are accepted, I will then send you an invoice for the balance of the program and schedule a 45-minute strategic coaching call with you. If you are not accepted, I will immediately return your deposit it full.
If the questions seem too personal, be assured that I’m not being nosey! Many life situations — such as sleep problems or elderly parents needing care — can have a huge impact on the lives of writers. By knowing about those issues in advance, I’m in a better position to help you make plans to succeed.
To your writing success!
Best,
Daphne Gray-Grant

A thesis or dissertation is usually somewhere between 40,000 and 150,000 words, depending on the faculty. Most first books are somewhere between 70,000 & 80,000. I always ask participants to use word count goals because they are so much more precise than # of pages! If you ONLY know the number of pages you need, then please count the words on one page and multiply that by the total number of pages you want, so you can calcuate the word count.

What are your current writing habits and beliefs?

Many people have a tough time with this question. Please time yourself or just make your best possible guess.

Imagine that your writing is divided into three distinct phases:
  1. preparing to write (researching, thinking, planning, outlining/mindmapping etc)
  2. writing, and
  3. editing or rewriting.
Of course, every writing project is different, but please give me your best guess, of your average for each. (Answer for all three questions beginning with ++ must add up to 100.)

You're on the home stretch!

Please, be conservative. You can always increase the goal later, if you discover it's too easy. Far better to choose an easy goal and hit it out of the park every day than pick a difficult one and never succeed.

If possible, try to choose two consecutive days, although they DON'T need to be Saturday and Sunday. If consecutive is not possible, that's also okay.

Don't worry! If you can't make it, you will receive a recording.
